Design & Technology
An initial teacher training programme for Design and Technology equips aspiring educators with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to teach a diverse and dynamic subject.
The programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on practice, covering key areas such as material knowledge in Timbers, Polymers, Paper and Board, Textiles, Modern & Smart materials and Electronics. Drawing, designing CAD and CAM.
Trainees will engage in practical workshops and projects, developing own practice, skills and strategies to deliver engaging lessons that foster creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in students.
In addition to the theoretical subject-specific content, the programme focuses on classroom management, Health and Safety, assessment techniques, moderation and marking of DT coursework, exam boards and expectations, inclusive teaching strategies in relation to DT curriculum and practical tasks.
During the programme all trainees will complete a DATA high risk machine training course and accreditation.
