What’s your background?

Before teaching I was an outdoor clothing designer for nearly 20 years. Managing people, working for many different brands all over the world creating innovative products for the outdoors.

Why did you decide to go into teaching?

I decided to become a teacher because, when I was at school, I could never have imagined the opportunities and experiences that my life and career would bring. I want to inspire students to believe in themselves, aim high, and dream big.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I enjoy helping students build confidence and develop their creativity by sharing my passion for art and design. I also enjoy showing them how creativity connects with other subjects and how creative thinking and problem-solving skills can be applied in everyday life and future careers.

Did you get a job at the end of the course? Where has it taken you since?

I have secured a job at Urmston Grammar School teaching art and textiles which I am excited about.

What were the three best things about the SCITT programme?

The SCITT team are so helpful, kind and supportive, especially as I was making a big leap with a career change this was scary but the team made everything feel less daunting.

The other trainees on the course are fantastic. You build strong friendships going through the same situations, its a huge support network from the very beginning.

The placement schools that were arranged for me were fantastic! I am very grateful that this was organised from the start. From these placements I have been able to build relationships with other teachers and learn so much along the way.

I also loved working for a couple of days each in a Primary School and a SEND school which help support a holistic view of your school learning experience.

Would you recommend the Cheshire East SCITT to anyone considering a career in teaching?

100% recommend the course. its the best decision I made!
