What is your background?
I have always loved learning and specifically the subject of English. Prior to beginning my PGCE with Cheshire East SCITT, I completed a BA in English and a Masters in Victorian Literature.
Why did you decide to teach?
I decided to teach because I wanted to continue exploring my subject whilst sharing my passion and knowledge with young people.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
What I enjoy most about teaching is the conversations and discussions I have with pupils. I love creating an environment where pupils feel comfortable articulating their brilliant thoughts and ideas on a topic; teaching them confidence and kindness which will hopefully not be limited to the English classroom.
Why did you choose the School Centred Initial Teacher Training route and the Cheshire East SCITT?
I chose Cheshire East SCITT because of its proximity to where I live; positive recommendations from friends and the focus on school centred learning.
What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to having my own classroom and classes in September and continue growing and improving in my teaching practice. I feel confident and positive about my career in the profession.
What were the three best things about the programme?
The quality of the training provided by Cheshire East SCITT; all of the training was delivered by engaging and knowledgeable experts.
The support I received from the fellow trainees and SCITT staff, particularly in regards to applications and interviews for September teaching posts. The fairly small cohort of 25 trainees contributed to the feeling of support through a genuine and personal approach.
The subject mentors at each placement school were committed to helping me progress.
