What’s your background?

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at The University of LIverpool in 2021. I then went on to be a Teaching Assistant for a year while looking after severely disabled children in the school holidays, during which I applied for the SCITT.

Why did you decide to go into teaching?

I have always had an interest in going into teaching, and decided it was what I definitely wanted to do when completing my A-Level in Psychology- not only were my teachers great role models for me, but I loved the subject and wanted to share that passion.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I love how social teaching is as a career; you are surrounded by people who have gone into the profession because they want to help young people, and no two days are the same.

Why did you choose the School Centred Initial Teacher Training route and specifically the Cheshire East SCITT?

Having applied for both the standard PGCE route and the SCITT, the interview process alone showed me how well supported I would be taking the SCITT route. I also loved how you are fully immersed in your placement school’s environment from the first day of term, which meant I was able to begin teaching as soon as I felt ready.

Do you have a job for next year and what are you looking forward to?

I am moving out of the area, which means that my job for next year is at a school outside of the SCITT. Lorraine was fully supportive of this. I am looking forward to having my own classes in such an amazing school and being able to implement everything I have learnt this year.

What were the three best things about the programme?

Throughout the year I have looked forward to SCITT Fridays. It has been so nice to be able to share our experiences with one another every week and know that other people are experiencing the same things as you.
The amount of time I have spent in my placement schools has been the key to success for me- I love being in a school environment, and being able to get to know the staff and the students over such long periods of time has been great.
The level of support, from the SCITT, my mentors and my fellow trainees. No matter what, I have felt supported in every aspect of my training- be it a worry or a risk I have taken with a lesson. This allowed me to feel confident in speaking up if something went wrong.
