What is your background?
I graduated with an MA in History in 2012, after years of working in administrative roles and having my daughter, I was ready for a new challenge and an exciting new career.
Why did you decide to teach?
I really felt that I would enjoy teaching but I hadn't set foot in a school for years, getting some school experience really helped me to make up my mind. During those experience days I saw that students and teachers can be downright awesome. I saw students engaging with sources and taking exam prep in their stride. I saw amazing teachers handling challenging situations, motivating the unmotivated and doing 20 other things at once. I admired the pace that educators work at, the commitment and effort of teachers and students and I wanted to be a part of that.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
I love working with students, it's something quite unique to get so many different personalities into one room and somehow manage to bring them all together to learn what you have planned. It is also just really rewarding to see them learning and improving their skills and know that you helped them to get there.
Why did you choose the School Centred Initial Teacher Training route and the Cheshire East SCITT?
I wanted to be in the classroom from day one, I attended a 'Back to School' event with the SCITT and got to meet the team and have all my questions answered. Having researched and interviewed with other providers I know that I made the right choice for me.
What are you looking forward to?
I am really excited to have my own classes and to continue developing my teaching practice.
What were the three best things about the programme?
1. You get to spend most of your time in school meaning you get loads of experience in the environment that you want to work in.
2. Brilliant supportive team who really care about your success.
3. It provides highly relevant and fun weekly training which you can apply to improve your teaching practice.
